Torres IP Service Flow Manager (ISFM) is a policy enforcement point (PEP) for traffic prioritization and bandwidth management. It detects several applications and applies policies. These policies are provisioned locally or set by the Torres central Service Management Platform (SMP). The integration of ISFM with the SMP forms the Torres Policy Control solution.
The ISFM could be deployed in both the core and the access. The ISFM is agnostic to IP access mechanism and could be deployed across networks such as DSL, fixed and mobile WiMAX, IPTV, etc. The product is an appliance and has multiple variants from desktop to rack mountable models suitable for both enterprise and carrier networks. ISFM supports a range of throughput from 10 Mbps to 2.2 Gbps.
Torres 7100 series ISFM is a CPE appliance, 7200 series ISFM can be deployed in network aggregation points, while 7300 series is a carrier grade model.
 Policy
The ISFM supports policies for traffic prioritization and bandwidth management. Policy is provisioned or dynamically set at the SMP.
Detection
The ISFM uses deep packet inspection (DPI) technology to detect traffic using layers 4-7 signatures.
The key applications detected are: voice, streaming video, internet, e-mail, remote desktop protocols, file transfer and file sharing protocols, security protocols, gaming, instant messaging and peer-to-peer applications. It has a tool-box to define new applications.
Traffic Shaping
Traffic Shapping ensures priority and guaranteed bandwidth for business critical traffic. The guaranteed bandwidth for the traffic can "burst" to more bandwidth when available, to enhance the QoE.
Session Monitoring
The ISFM keeps track of the sessions that include multiple connections and generates session start-stop triggers. These triggers are consolidated by the SMP for generating charging records.
Reports
ISFM provides granular network visibilty through reports. A suite of reports on bandwidth usage and data downloaded/uploaded in near real-time is provided. |
